We are thrilled to share exciting news from the recent oversight visit by the distinguished Senate Committee on Industry, Trade and Investments to our production plant in Enugu. The visit, led by Committee Chairman Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, concluded with a powerful endorsement of ANAMMCO’s capabilities and a strong call for government at all levels to champion local manufacturing.
Lawmakers Impressed by ANAMMCO’s Capabilities
The Senate committee toured our facilities and witnessed firsthand the impressive scale of our operations. The lawmakers confirmed ANAMMCO’s “huge vehicle production capacity,” noting our ability to not only assemble brand-new vehicles but also to expertly refurbish existing government-owned fleets.
Senator Fadahunsi expressed his profound impresson, describing ANAMMCO as a “renewed hope” for Nigeria’s industrial landscape. He personally confirmed that our plant is fully equipped to produce modern vehicles, including eco-friendly CNG-powered buses, which are crucial for the nation’s future.
“We have found out that a lot of potentials are being wasted because of non-patronage by federal and state governments,” said Senator Fadahunsi. “There are no types of vehicles that the government is looking for that these local assemblers cannot produce.”
A Call for Patronage: “Let Us Buy from Our Own”
The primary message from the Senate committee was a clear and urgent appeal for the Federal Government, state governments, and all government agencies to begin the full patronage of ANAMMCO and other indigenous automobile manufacturers.
Senator Fadahunsi argued that this single policy shift would have a massive ripple effect, stating, “Instead of wasting foreign resources we don’t have on importation, let us buy from our own. Whatever we buy here will be reinvested into the economy.”
The committee chairman pledged that the Senate would actively lobby ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to halt the purchase of imported refurbished vehicles and direct their procurement budgets towards local manufacturers like ANAMMCO.
Creating an Environment for Growth
Our Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Bennett Ejindu, welcomed the committee’s visit as a positive sign that the nation’s leadership is renewing its interest in industrialisation, especially within the auto sector.
“It gives us a lot of hope that authorities within Nigeria are interested in reviving automotive manufacturing,” Mr. Ejindu stated.
He emphasised that while ANAMMCO is ready and capable, the industry needs a supportive environment to thrive. Mr. Ejindu highlighted the critical importance of passing the National Automotive Industry Development Policy (NAIDP) into law.
“This will assure the automotive world that Nigeria is serious about protecting investments,” he explained. “Investors will not come if there is no confidence, protection, or long-term profit. NAIDP backed by law will change that.”
The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, who was also present, reiterated that a thriving automobile sector has huge multiplier effects on job creation, spare parts production, and technical skill development for Nigerians.
