It is my pleasure to welcome you all to Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company (ANAMMCO) and this landmark ceremony to mark the rollout of the maiden units of Nigeria-assembled Shacman trucks from Completely Knocked Down components in our facilities in partnership with transit Support Services Limited. To our nation Nigeria, this event will eventually reverse the substantial trade imbalance in the industrial sector through the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan. To the ANAMMCO community, this event is the triumph of the tortuous journey of resisting unfair trade dealings from the erstwhile foreign partner and resilience of the Nigerian investors to revive the company.
Nigeria Is highly-ranked in all the indices considered necessary for an automotive industry to flourish in any economy. Our automotive industry is a key enabler of our march towards industrialization and economic transformation because of its immense potentials to contribute to growth of the GDP, build human capital. we extol the wisdom of the Federal Ministry, Trade and Investment and the National Automotive Council for the wide consultation and involvement of a wide spectrum of stakeholders during the development of the National Automotive Industry Development Policy (NAIDP). Our hope is that bona fide plant owners shall play due roles in the course of implementation of this policy and development of accompanying regulations and legislation that shall follow.
While Nigeria imports more than 400,000 units of motor vehicles per annum, the combined annual capacity of our manufacturing/assembly plants is 70,000. I am proud to say that installed capacity of ANAMMCO is 7,500 units of trucks and 1,000 units of buses in three-shift production regime. As our gesture of affirming our support and commitment to the success of NAIDP (of which we were an active part of), we extended our spare capacity to our partners, Transit Support services (TSS) Limited.
It is pertinent to state that in addition to the traditional transportation and logistics that the development of the automotive industry impacts, it can be extended to defense, marine, manufacturing, agriculture, railway coaches and power generation. ANAMMCO has more than enough capacity and competences to play in all of these segments.
Vital ingredients for success of the resurgent industry include healthy competition in an atmosphere of cooperation, goodwill and shared infrastructure. In addition to our willingness to avail capacity to credible players we are glad to offer the facilities of ANAMMCO for actualization of the South-East industrial cluster envisaged by the National Automotive Council for the success of this industry.
Once again, I welcome you all to this landmark event and to new phase of industrialization in our national development.
